Enhancing Surgeon Autonomy in the OR with Voice-Activated Video Switching​

Project Description:

Operating rooms are high-stress, technologically complex environments where even minor disruptions can have significant consequences. Surgeons must maintain a sterile surgical field while relying on support staff to control auxiliary equipment like video feeds and lighting. This disjointed workflow leads to frustration, delays, and compromised focus. HeyOR is a voice-activated control system that empowers surgeons with direct, hands-free command over operating room technology. Through simple voice prompts like “HeyOR, switch to camera 2”, surgeons can effortlessly control video feeds, lighting, surgical robots, and other OR systems without breaking sterile field or diverting focus from the patient. HeyOR utilizes advanced speech recognition software to accurately interpret voice commands and rapidly execute instructions. This seamless voice control maximizes surgeon agency while minimizing workflow disruptions that can jeopardize procedures and impact patient outcomes. In addition to enhancing surgeon mastery, HeyOR reduces auxiliary responsibilities for nurses and surgical staff, allowing them to prioritize patient care and comfort. The system is compatible with existing hospital audio-video routing infrastructure for seamless integration. As operating rooms continue adopting more digital technology, HeyOR provides a future-proof solution for unified voice command. With an expansive vocabulary and machine learning capabilities, its applications extend beyond video switching to comprehensive management of digital operating rooms. HeyOR represents a much-needed shift towards optimized, disruption-free surgical environments fully controlled by medical experts.
