Mask Hero2

Creating a flexible NIV mask with a variable load distribution system.

Semiflexible non-invasive ventilator mask with a plastically deformable rail system to ensure facial conformation and pressure distribution

Project Description:

For the past 20 years in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), physicians have treated a significant number of critically-ill children with emerging respiratory failure using non-invasive ventilation (NIV) before resorting to invasive intubation. Respiratory therapists explore several mask types to accommodate the most comfortable, decent fit without pressure leakage to support these children in respiratory failure. There are several companies that make pediatric size masks, however, there is a lack of well-fitting masks for the ages of 2-10 year-olds, leading to pressure ulcers, deformations, and NIV failure resulting in intubation. Our device is designed to save time, reduce pressure related injuries, and minimize the need for intubation. It’s moldable nature is to ensure a perfect fit every time while the plastically deformable headgear rail serves to distribute pressure in a precise and patient specific manner.
