Technology for Diagnostics of Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH)

The autoViewer is a slide carousel that automates the process of stool slide examination. It is an attachment that incorporates automated translation of the microscope stage and rotation of the slide carousel. The device increases the efficiency of stool slide examination and aids in alleviating the back and eye strain lab technicians experience associated with prolonged hours of examining slides.

Project Description:

The current STH diagnostic process performed by lab technicians in developing areas is not sensitive or consistent enough for accurate diagnosis of community-wide infection. The unpleasant, long and laborious process causes lots of strain on technicians, while also limiting the capabilities of organizations to test sufficient communities to understand the full scope of the infections. Our project seeks to create an efficient STH diagnostic method for lab technicians in limited resource settings.
