IV-R-US

Wire Management System That Enhances Physician Use of Intravascular Ultrasound Devices

An innovative IVUS cable optimization device featuring two independent rotating spools with integrated slip rings to maintain the electrical connection. Enclosed in durable acrylic and secured with a sturdy clamp for flexible usage.

Project Description:

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is the gold standard diagnostic tool used by interventional radiologists to assess vascular conditions. However, current IVUS procedures are often hindered by the limitations of short data transmission wires, which can lead to reduced mobility and potential loss of sterility.

To address these challenges, this project aims to develop an innovative solution that provides 2 meters of additional working length, provides cable management, all while maintaining sterility and continuous electrical connection. Additional cable length can be extended in two opposite directions, and is neatly housed when not in use. Further, the clamp allows physicians to place the device in the best position to work from, regardless of where the access site is on the patient. This single use, sterile device offers a practical and ergonomic solution which will reduce risk of complications or infection for the patient, reduce the cost of the procedure, and improve efficiency in the operating room.

Looking at the broader market potential for IVUS innovations, this team has identified a substantial market opportunity. Connect-IV addresses critical design inputs such as adjustable length, homogeneity, minimization of obstruction, and ease of use; and has the potential to increase accessibility and decrease cost in every IVUS procedure.
