Improved Peri-operative Warming to Prevent Peri-operative Hypothermia

The POW blanket in use at Emory University Hospital Midtown with teammates Andrew acting as the patient and Thomas as the provider.

Project Description:

Current perioperative warming devices are inconvenient to use, unnatural, and often unsafe; resulting in decreased use rates, which increases the likelihood of patients developing inadvertent perioperative hypothermia, a source of avoidable hospital costs. The POW! team developed an innovative heated blanket that prioritizes patient comfort and provider ease of use while also using heat transfer technology to deliver heat to our patient’s core and prevent heat loss before surgery.
