Creating a device allowing patients and clinicians to track Pectus Carinatum treatment.

A traditional Pectus Carinatum orthosis with force monitor attachment

Project Description:

Children with pectus carinatum, also known as pigeon chest, need a novel solution to allow them and their families to track their progress outside of the office. This condition causes a prominence to form on a child’s sternum. A force monitoring attachment can detect compliance as well as treatment pressure of an orthosis to correct their protrusion. This device also reports back to the clinician, giving them the ability to alter a child’s treatment plan as necessary. This data can change the way the pectus carinatum is treated and help better care for those impacted.
