H.6 Endocup forceps
Problem Description
DESCRIPTION
ENDOCUP FORCEPS is a biopsy forceps like device which can be passed through the biopsy/suction channel of the endoscope. Main function of the device is to help with deployment of small bowel feeding tubes.
NEED FOR DEVELOPING THIS DEVICE
Endoscopic placement of a small bowel feeding tube is a challenge to the gastroenterologist. Currently we use a loop tied at the end of the feeding tube and is then passed along the side of the upper endoscope into the small bowel. Biopsy forceps is used to grasp the loop end and is directed into the small bowel. Since the loop has a lag, the feeding tube stays behind the scope making it difficult to guide the tube into small bowel. Release of the grasping biopsy forceps to let go off the loop is another challenge. Upon retrieval of the scope, the feeding tube often falls out complicating the procedure further.
Hence, we need a device which can hold the feeding tube ahead of the scope making it easier to guide it into the small intestine.
DESCRIPTION
Endoscope is passed into the patient in usual fashion. The small bowel feeding tube is passed along the scope.
ENDOCUP FORCEPS is passed via the biopsy/suction channel. ENDOCUP FORCEPS with its unique design, can be used to hold the end of the feeding tubes of different caliber and keep it visually ahead of the endoscope. This makes it easier to guide the feeding tube into the small bowel. Once releasing the end of the feeding tube, ENDOCUP FORCEPS can be removed and scope easily withdrawn without dislodging the feeding tube.
MECHANISM of the ENDOCUP Forceps
ENDOCUP FORCEPS can be passed via the biopsy/suction channel.
It measures 6 French in size.
The ends of the Endocup forceps are cup shaped which complete a circle when together, the forceps and can hold tubes of different sizes given the design.
