Partner with the Georgia Tech BME Capstone Program
Low-risk, high-impact innovation that advances healthcare while developing the next generation of biomedical engineers.
“Working with the Capstone team was seamless – the logistics were handled smoothly, leaving the team and me to focus on the project.”
– Former Capstone Sponsor
Why Sponsor a Project?
Cost-effective Innovation – Explore solutions to real-world healthcare challenges without the overhead of internal R&D resources. Our students will act as an extension of your team, tackling unmet needs with creativity and innovation.
De-Risk New Ideas – Capstone teams ideate >100 concepts and narrow down to the most viable and impactful design for the unmet need. Teams then iteratively prototype and conduct feasibility testing on top concepts, providing early proof-of-concept results that identify the strongest path forward.
Access to Emerging Talent – Work directly with highly skilled Georgia Tech biomedical engineering students. Sponsors gain early access to motivated students who are often seeking positions, creating a pipeline of vetted candidates.
Gain Fresh Perspectives – Student teams approach your challenge from new angles, backed by stakeholder interviews, market research, and technical prototyping. Many sponsors find that students uncover opportunities their own teams had overlooked.
Visibility & Recognition – Sponsorship demonstrates an individual’s and or organization’s commitment to innovation and education of the next generation of Biomedical Engineers. Sponsors will be recognized at Georgia Tech’s Capstone Expo and across BME Capstone Social Media reaching other clinicians, enigneers, faculty, and students.
Make a Tangible Impact – Former Capstone projects have advanced beyond the classroom leading to patents and start-ups. By sponsoring a project, you are not only supporting the education of innovators who will transform patient care, but also driving real-world innovations that address clinical needs and shape the future of medical devices.
What is the Sponsor Commitment?
1. Provide an unmet clinical or industry need for students to address.
2. Designate a mentor (clinician, engineer, or professional) to guide the team throughout the Spring or Fall Semester.
3. Contribute financial support at the beginning of the semester that goes towards prototyping and testing materials.
4. Engage with students throughout the semester via weekly meetings as they research, ideate, prototype, and test solutions.
What do Sponsors Receive?
1. A dedicated team of 4–6 Biomedical Engineering Students working on your challenge.
2. Functional prototype, 3D Modeling Files, and or Looks-Like Prototype with Preliminary Feasibility Testing.
3. Insights from student-led stakeholder interviews across healthcare professionals, patients, engineers, etc. to uncover all perspectives to help design solutions that are practical, patient-centered, and implementation-ready.
4. Thorough Patent Landscape Review and Market Research to help inform solution viability and intellectual property opportunities.
5. Access to top-notch Biomedical Engineering Students looking for future positions.

How do I formulate a project submission with a clinical need?
The general outline for a project submission is as follows:
- Short Paragraph 1: Describe the clinical need particular to an area of interest. Where relevant, include any references to literature in your field describing the problem.
- Short Paragraph 2: Describe the current technologies available (feel free to include links) and why they are limited or sub-optimal for your clinical need.
- Short Paragraph 3: Described the perceived impact for a solution addressing the problem (i.e. how would this impact your practice as a physician and/or change patient outcomes?)
Please note that no solutions should be proposed in this statement, just an overview of the
clinical problem and existing solutions, if any.
If you have any questions or need assistance formulating the project submission/clinical need, please reach out to Alessandra Luna or Kayden Shuster.
Submissions for the Spring 2026 Semester are due Friday, December 19, 2025.
