A direct stool collection and transport device for inflammatory bowel disease monitoring.
Project Description:
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, incurable condition that requires continuous monitoring to track disease activity. One of the most common tools for assessing gastrointestinal inflammation is stool sampling, particularly through biomarkers such as fecal calprotectin. Despite its importance, stool collection remains an overlooked area with little innovation. Patients are asked to repeat the process frequently, yet current methods are messy, complicated, and confusing. This leads to constant discomfort, frustration, and low sample return rates. To improve disease management, IBD patients need a collection device that enables stool sampling to be simple, hygienic, and reliable, ensuring greater consistency in tracking their disease progression.
