BedPal

Novel bedpan with removable disposal container to reduce spillage and improve workflow.

The BedPal is a novel bedpan device that features a reusable seat (white) and removable, disposable waste container (gray) to reduce spillage and improve nurse workflow.

Project Description:

The traditional bedpan used across all care settings is difficult for caregivers (including nurses and techs) to use. It requires a great deal of labor and is particularly prone to spilling its contents, especially when the patient is rolled off the bedpan after a bowel movement.
The BedPal is an alternative to the bedpan, designed specifically to reduce spills and to improve caregiver ease of use. It consists of a reusable seat shell and a disposable waste container, engineered so that the container and the waste within can be removed and disposed of while the patient is still on the seat. This eliminates the risk of spilling when the patient is rolled off the seat afterwards. Each time a spill is prevented, the 15 minutes that multiple caregivers would’ve spent cleaning can be spent on more value-adding work. The BedPal thus serves as a uniquely effective waste management solution.
