A New Don: Reimagining Cleanroom Coveralls

A New Don is an aseptic cleanroom coverall that prioritizes breathability, moisture-wicking, and inclusive sizing. Our concept arose from critical user concerns surrounding poor sweat management and comfort during extended wear. Our design, featuring a Spunbond-Meltblown-Spunbond (SMS) trilayer nonwoven fabric with a moisture-wicking cellulose-based interior lining, aims to revolutionize cleanroom coveralls by directly addressing the need for prolonged comfort. Informed by competitor analysis, we refined our concepts by adding commonly used features like additional fabric to cover zippers to ensure particle barrier integrity, visible donning instructions on packaging, and tabs to improve the ease of donning; all to enhance user experience with the coverall. Our innovative approach, guided by user feedback, seeks to provide a single-use, size-inclusive aseptic coverall for ISO 5 cleanroom environments. We also created a hijab-inspired head cover to address the user complaints surrounding ill-fitting coverall hoods. Our hair-inclusive hood can be donned aseptically and accommodates all hair types and styles. It’s A New Don for cleanroom coveralls, who said sterility had to come at the expense of comfort?
